Position Summary:

Part Time, Summer Seasonal Position 

Location: Pelican Grill

Responsible for greeting guests and seating them while reflecting the high customer service standards of the hotel/resort.  Opens the restaurant at the prescribed time and ensuring the reception area is clean and ready for guests to enter. Stays informed about pertinent hotel information such as special events, entertainment, daily specials.  Uses professional phone etiquette.  Maintains a professional appearance and friendly attitude toward guests, other employees and management.  

Job Duties:

  • Work as team player with all restaurant staff.
  • Review the reservation listing and make recommendations as to the set-up of the restaurant for the most efficient seating.
  • Be prepared to explain menu items, including food content and preparation style.
  • Be familiar with daily specials and be prepared to answer guests’ questions.
  • Inspect all menus to ensure their condition and cleanliness.
  • Seat guests in a courteous and friendly manner and ensure any specials needs have been taken care of.
  • Understand and use the proper procedure for guest walk-outs.
  • Remain up-to-date on events within hotel/resort.
  • Know all dining room floor plans and understand the seat number system.
  • Strictly adhere to the rules and regulations established in the employee handbook and the hotel’s policies.
  • Follow proper payroll, uniform, and grooming policies and procedures.
  • Attend and contribute to all staff meetings, pre-shift meetings, other departmental and hotel meetings and/or training as scheduled.
  • Maintain open communication with the Culinary staff as well as the FOH Management. 
  • Responds properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation and is well versed in all procedures. 
  • Utilize the10’-5’-3’ rule in all interactions.
  • Recognize any problems resulting from guest complaints, intoxication or disruptive behavior; notify manager immediately.
  • Notify management of unsafe conditions, needed maintenance of tables, chairs, carpet and/or equipment and any accidents.
  • Follow all procedures when responding to any hotel emergency or safety situation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:

  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 21 years of age or over.
  • Previous experience working as a Host/Hostess preferred, preferably in an upscale dining establishment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work with management staff and other employees in a professional manner.
  • Must have current California Food Handler Card or willingness and ability to obtain California Food Handling Card before first day of employment.
  • Ability to work a variety of schedules including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Compensation:

Base Pay Start Rate: $17.00
This position may receive gratuities or may participate in a tip pool.
