Position Summary:

The Director of Engineering leads a team of 15 professionals and is responsible for the overall maintenance and grandeur of the resort.  The ideal candidate will have a hospitality background, proven experience in a luxury/high-end property and will have relevant experience in facilities management.  


To be considered this candidate will have experience and knowledge of HVAC equipment, commercial laundry equipment, fleet management, residential appliances (oven, refrigerator, hot water heater etc).  The resort comprises 504 acres and landscaping is a signature element.  The ideal candidate has experience in this area.


The resort reinvests in enhancements and refurbishments regularly and the Director of Engineering is responsible for the oversight of these projects.  This includes operating supplies, equipment replacement, technology upgrades, energy savings projects, soft goods renovation and new construction.


He/She will ensure that all building safety, compliance and standards are being followed.  In addition, oversees the IT department, as well as outside vendors such as landscaping.  The Director of Engineering works closely with all members of the Executive Committee and reports to the Managing Director.

Job Duties:
  • Hire, train, manage, schedule, and plan the activities of Engineering department associates.
  • Ensure that effective preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Prepare an annual, itemized, special project budget to management, including all changes and replacements of mechanical equipment required by all departments.
  • Establish department operating budget for submission to management covering costs of heat, light and power and maintenance and repairs.
  • Work with Divisional leaders to prepare and maintain the property Capital Expenditure budget 
  • Develop annual operating budget for Engineering, IT & Landscaping.  Maintain checkbooks in accordance with forecasted revenues. 
  • Ensure the property vehicle fleet is maintained including golf carts, cars, trucks, vans, shuttle and trolley per the manufacturer and Department of Transportation and California Highway Patrol requirements. 
  • Complete, hold and follow up on employee performance reviews on a timely basis.
  • Develop and update comprehensive departmental policies and procedures manuals.
  • Ensure all associates within the Engineering Department are exposed to resort internal and external training on an on-going basis.
  • Plan and implement procedures, systems and controls to ensure an efficient Engineering department.
  • Maintain all the Fire Life Safety systems in accordance with the Fire Authorities.  Ensure that the Engineering staff is trained on operating the system and alarm activation response procedures.
Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:
  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • Two-year degree in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics or related major.
  • Minimum of ten years as a Director of Engineering or related professional area. 
  • Technical knowledge in electrical, plumbing, HVAC-R, and boilers
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • Google Apps experience a plus.
