Position Summary:

The Director of Purchasing plans, develops, organizes, evaluates and directs the strategic business goals and objectives of the Purchasing department and the company. Responsible for recommending and implementing purchasing concepts that save money through contract, quantity discount and pre-price increase purchasing.

Job Duties:

●    Negotiate competitive pricing and contractual terms with vendors, evaluate the quality of available products, and assess rate cards and vendor bids
●    Maintain property inventory and implement internal controls to ensure the security of our assets
●    Collaborate with Operations to determine the materials and supplies needed and replenish these goods based on pars. Par level reviews should be performed on a recurring basis to ensure inventory is maintained at the optimal level to support on time deliveries while keeping the inventory holdings at an appropriate level
●    Develop an overall vendor base to create and sustain a competitive advantage, leveraging spend and technologies 
●    Report to leadership the measurable status of progress and corrective actions as it pertains to supplier performance
●    Manage materials savings initiatives in line with Budget and overall business objectives
●    Identify areas of improvement and execute on proposals for efficiency
●    Create Purchasing department policies and procedures around buying and safely storing food, liquor, amenities, linens, uniforms and other supplies
●    Establish and maintain measurable performance metrics for all levels of procurement activities including but not limited to supplier performance, supplier quality, internal order placement performance, buyer activity levels, financial performance and material shortage elimination
●    Maintain accurate records for purchasing and consumption of all products for annual audit reviews. 
●    Collaborate with the Director of Finance on a recurring basis to set expectations on financial budgets for materials and supplies and implement into the daily operations of the Purchasing team
●    Execute and communicate Purchase Orders for large volume vendors that align with our budget and support our business and departmental needs

Supervisory/Management/Leadership Responsibilities

●    Train and manage a team of purchasing and receiving clerks and monitor their day to day operations
●    Manage and coach the team through daily operations including inventory management, requisitions and fulfillments, receiving at the loading dock, and vendor communication
●    Actively support team members when training is needed or issues arise, mentor team members to develop problem solving skills
●    Complete quarterly and annual reviews with each team member to ensure growth and development of internal talent

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:

●    Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing, Production/Operations Management, Hotel or Business Administration or a related field.    
●    Minimum seven (7) years purchasing management experience, preferably in a hotel/golf resort environment.
●    Excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation skills.  Ability to use appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to guide employees toward goal achievement.
●    Experience in managing inventory, utilizing purchasing systems, applying pricing strategies, preparing bid specifications, and reviewing contracts
