Position Summary:

Energetic, outgoing and personable candidate who has the will and drive to succeed would be the ideal applicant for the Chief Engineer. The applicant will exude the personality of what it takes to work in the hospitality industry.

 

The Chief Engineer will work directly with the Director of Engineering in achieving the key results while maintaining the vision of Pelican Hill. This individual would be tasked with maintaining the proper functionality, safety, and emergency systems of the facility and exterior. As such they will be responsible for performing the following tasks listed below to the highest standards.

 

By performing these tasks this individual will be directly involved with supporting Pelican Hill’s ongoing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability.
 

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for the day to day operations of the engineering department.
  • Assist the director with the administrative, financial, and operational aspects of the hotel. 
  • Knowledgeable with the intricacies of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, carpentry, as well as high rise building operations.
  • Strong understanding of the hospitality industry and handle maintenance related issues.
  • Assist in major repairs and improvements to the property.
  • Supervise and train all other engineers in customer service, operation procedures, and follow up with completed work in conjunction with the supervisor.
  • Communication is paramount; skills of both written and verbal should be utilized via any effective medium to disseminate information across the engineering department and other affected departments.
  • Work with all hotel departments.
  • Have the innate ability to know what needs to be done, has the initiative and drive to do so and can be done with little to no supervision.
  • Assisting in developing and achieving plans to maintain the property, equipment, grounds and other assets in a safe and sufficient state of repair.
  • Adhere to the department standards as well as all applicable safety standards.
  • Follow up and guest satisfaction should be of the utmost importance and as an understanding of the vision and direction of Pelican Hill.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:

  • Experience in the hospitality industry or similar industry is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years in progressive facilities maintenance experience in a hotel or related field and at least a year in related management experience.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand instructions.
  • Effectively present information in a one-on-one or small group situation.
  • Possess reasoning, analysis reasoning and resourcefulness to know what is needed to accomplish a task.
  • Progressive hospitality mindset, organization skills, ability to handle multiple tasks and competent computer skills.
  • Must have a clean driving record, valid driver's license and be insured.
  • Must be able to pass a physical abilities test.
