Position Summary:

The Claims Manager will primarily analyze, review and adjust general liability and pollution claims. In addition, he/she will manage and train one claims adjuster. Other duties will include handling complex litigated claims and preparing and presenting monthly and quarterly reports to all business units.

Job Duties:


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct investigations including onsite inspections, claimant statements, witness statements, liability and property evaluation, and application of setting appropriate reserves for assigned claims.
  • Negotiate and settle claims as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and manage litigated claims with defense and in-house counsel.
  • Attend mediation, trial, and other legal proceedings, as required.
  • Review and interpret legal pleadings and case law as necessary.
  • Draft routine claim correspondence including tenders to third parties and settlement documentation.
  • Process claims receivables and payments, validate and update system.
  • Respond to inquiries from internal and external customers.
  • Prepare, present and provide claim data for monthly and quarterly reports/updates.
  • Train and manage other department team members.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have strong organizational, analytical, negotiation and communication skills.
  • 10+ years handling claims at an insurance carrier, broker or risk management department.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Associate in Claims preferred.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google and claims management software (CS Stars preferred).
  • Paralegal or investigative experience, a plus.
