Position Summary:

Our Director of Banquets will be responsible for leading a team and communicating a vision to ensure the successful execution and expectations of banquets for our guests.

Job Duties:

  • Manage Banquets and Conference Services teams.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and motivate teams to work together to ensure success.
  • Direct and manage the entire operation while being a gracious host to all guests and providing best in class service.
  • Develop and maintain all training programs on a continual basis to ensure a high degree of professionalism within the staff.
  • Coordinate and ensure the needs of the Catering department with the managers of interrelated departments.  Will partner and coordinate with external catering companies as well.
  • Post all contracted function sheets and gives instructions to Assistants, Captains or Staff to ensure the success of the function.
  • Organize and orchestrate any last minute changes or details to functions.
  • Attend regular catering meetings to obtain information of the upcoming contracted functions.
  • Conduct monthly departmental meetings to provide vital information to the private events staff, obtain staff feedback regarding the department itself, and provide a regular forum for improving departmental communication.

Job Duties Continued:

  • Assume responsibility for shift supervisory duties on a regular basis, including but not limited to VIP, social, corporate and in-house functions.
  • Hire, train, discipline, direct and supervise the work of the employees in the Banquets and Conference Services department.
  • Schedule all employees to maintain the service standards of the hotel while operating within budgeted labor cost guidelines.
  • Prepare the payroll and gratuity reports as required.
  • Prepare private events checks with all back-up for collection at the end of functions.
  • The ability to constantly monitor the staff’s appearance, attitude and degree of professionalism to ensure their strict adherence to the Hotel's standards of quality service.
  • The ability to communicate directly with the hosts of functions and goes over the details of the function.
  • Directly oversee the actual set-up and service of contracted functions by giving specific menu information to the servers, by coordinating the timing of the dinner with the Chef and by assigning functions to the Captains to ensure their success.
  • The ability to ensure proper care, security and maintenance of hotel equipment through proper staff appearance.
  • Take an active role in implementing safety procedures and following up within the department.
  • The ability to respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation.
  • Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management and staff.

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:

  • 3 - 5+  years experience as a Director of Banquets, including experience in all aspects of service and well versed in multiple set ups and service styles.
  • Ethnic events experience (weddings, reunions, etc.).
  • Previous experience working with external catering companies.
  • Excellent leadership, motivational, team building and training skills.
  • Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Possess creative, out of the box and forward thinking.
  • Must be able to adapt, react quickly and problem solve in any situation.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
