Position Summary:

The Retail Division's design studio leadership roles and responsibilities are established and implemented by this role. Responsibilities include establishing the design direction for the design studio projects, while coordinating efforts with Development, Construction, Leasing, Asset Management, Operations, and Marketing. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in retail architecture, interiors, and master planning.

Job Duties:

  • Identifies and evaluates designs that align with Divisional objectives, developmental activities, and schedule and budget targets.
  • Preparation and presentation of project concepts and designs to Management for capital approval.
  • Prepares, monitors and updates design project schedules while coordinating with internal departments and outside consultants.
  • Reviews cost estimates to ensure designs are in alignment with Divisional business objectives.
  • Participates in the evaluation of design execution in the field to ensure architectural details meet expectations and standards of quality.
  • Manages and directs the design studio team to achieve better project design execution and delivery.
  • Reviews and advises on general contractor’s and consultant’s progress throughout the design process in order to achieve proper alignment during pre-construction and construction phases.
  • Coordinates projects with Development, Construction, Leasing, Asset Management, Operations, and Marketing.
  • Leads retail master planning efforts and contributes to cross-divisional collaboration in mixed-use project opportunities.
  • Responsible for managing and overseeing the planning and design process, as it relates to municipal and other regulatory boards, working with land use attorneys, land planners, architects, engineers and other consultants, and local officials.
  • Manages all phases of design from the time of initial site selection through project completion.
  • Prepares well-written and documented design packages that assist in the Divisional assessment of development, acquisition, and disposition activities.

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:

  • 15-20 years of experience in planning, design, and execution of retail architecture and interior projects. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or equivalent; Master’s Degree in Architecture preferred.
  • Ability to understand and interpret architectural working drawing floor plans, elevations and construction details, civil grading and improvement plans, landscape plans and other technical construction documents associated with commercial and residential construction.
  • Strong design skills with a good eye and refined aesthetic sensibility with the ability to creatively solve design problems both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent verbal, writing and drawing communication skills.
  • Working knowledge and appreciation of traditional architectural styles and design principals.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of community land planning, site planning and landscape architecture design and interior design.
  • Valid California driver’s license; Maintain continuous vehicle liability insurance as required by state law.
  • This role requires the regular and frequent operation of a vehicle, as defined in the Company's MVR policy, and is part of the essential duties of this position.

Compensation:

Base Pay Range: $175,800.00 - $288,500.00

 

Actual placement within this range may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
