Position Summary:
The Irvine Company is a diversified, privately held real estate operating and investment company, highly respected for its stewardship and master-planning of the Irvine Ranch in Orange County, California. Today, the Company’s real estate portfolio totals approximately 130M square feet, with a focus primarily on coastal California. Approximately 65% of the Company’s portfolio is in Orange County, with 35% in Silicon Valley, San Diego, West Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City.
The Company operates under a holding company structure with each of its four primary real estate operating divisions (Apartments, Office, Retail, and Community Development) functioning as wholly owned subsidiaries of the parent. While the parent provides strategic-level guidance and oversight, corporate services and support (IT, HR, Corporate Finance, Legal, Accounting, etc.), each division is staffed and managed as a fully functioning real estate operating company at scale.
Although privately held, the Company is managed similarly to a public company, with strong corporate governance and executive management reporting to a board of directors. The Company is structured to operate in perpetuity.
The Company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced leasing attorney to join its Office Division leasing team as Vice President, Assistant General Counsel. This individual will provide legal support to the leasing and management operations of the Office Division, and will be based in the Office Division’s offices located at 111 Innovation Drive, Irvine, California.
Job Duties:
- Prepare, negotiate, and finalize office lease agreements and related documents for new and existing tenants leasing space within the Office Division’s portfolio, working in close coordination with leasing representatives within the Division to ensure timely execution of lease agreements and related documents.
- Specific leasing tasks include: (i) preparing initial drafts of lease documents, using approved deal term sheets and Office Division lease forms and ancillary provisions, (ii) corresponding directly with tenant’s representative or counsel to solicit and respond to tenant comments, (iii) preparing revised drafts to reflect negotiated terms, and (iv) delivering execution documents to the tenant.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate the various entry permits and license agreements in support of day-to-day Office Division business operations.
- With assistance from outside litigation counsel, provide advice and direction to the Office Division’s operations team following a tenant breach or bankruptcy filing.
- Partner with business teams to ensure compliance with Company policies.
- Participate in Office Division training efforts and perform other projects as directed by the Division General Counsel in support of the Office Division.
- Manage a demanding caseload efficiently, overseeing multiple cases simultaneously and consistently meeting tight deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:
Education & Experience:
- Graduate of a nationally-recognized law school.
- Minimum 7+ years of experience representing clients in real
estate leasing transactions, which must include substantial
office building leasing transactional work. - Significant experience working in an in-house legal
environment is strongly preferred. - Significant experience working in an in-house legal environment is strongly preferred.
Certifications:
- Admission to the California Bar.

Compensation:
Base Pay Range: $234,100.00 - $305,700.00
Actual placement within this range may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location.
