Position Summary:

The Strategic Planning & Analysis (“SP&A”) group is responsible for financial planning, analysis, and research in support of the development, acquisition, and operating activities of the Irvine Company.
Within SP&A, the Research team functions as the primary source of economic, demographic, and sector / market level information used as macro context for business line decision making. The group is centralized and supports all divisions, but is primarily focused on the commercial property groups. Research deliverables are multi-faceted and span a wide range of topics. As such, applicants have the opportunity to gain insight into multiple commercial property types in a fluid, fast-paced environment.

Job Duties:

  • Track and report on economic, demographic, and real estate forecasts at the national, state, and local level.
  • Provide economic and market context for the company’s acquisition, development, reinvestment, operating, and corporate finance activities.
  • Update the Company’s view on go-forward economic conditions for quarterly Board of Directors meetings and senior leadership.
  • Support the Company’s quarterly competitive intelligence processes, including REIT earnings coverage.
  • Assist with the implementation of analytic frameworks informing leasing and merchandising processes.
  • Research and report on key issues and trends impacting the Company and the broader real estate industry to senior management.
  • Assist in the management of the Company’s research subscriptions and platform.

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:

  • Experience. 1- 3 years of prior work experience, preferably in market research or strategy-focused career. Majors in economics or other business-related field preferred, but not required. All backgrounds encouraged to apply.
  • Intellectual curiosity. Striving for thought leadership is a cornerstone of our research team. Applicants must be well-read, thoughtful, innovative, and naturally curious to “how the world works”.
  • Analytic proficiency. A high degree of competency in Excel, Powerpoint, and an understanding of basic corporate finance, financial statement analysis, valuation concepts are required; as is familiarity with public company SEC filings.
  • Collaborative team player. Collaborative mentality with a clear ability to build positive relationships and resourcefully obtain information from both internal clients and external constituencies.
  • Superior written and verbal communication. Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources into concise, relevant, and timely briefings.
  • Organized / adaptive. Able to efficiently and productively manage ever-changing priorities and demands on a lean team; willingness to “roll up your sleeves” for the sake of group productivity.
