Position Summary:

The Sr. Business Intelligence (BI) Manager is a hands-on leader who will own the building of data and analytics across Irvine Company and champion its use.

  • This role will lead a team whose mission is to provide access to actionable data designed to deliver insight into data that will lead to improved business decision making and support high growth for Irvine Company and its customers.
  • Create and enhance a data infrastructure of scalable and secure platforms to enable foundational analysis and reporting capabilities.
  • Advocate for the effective use of data and drive a culture of data-informed decision making.
  • Develop and implement business intelligence architecture plans, assess cost and feasibility of system requests and ensure the plan supports both strategic and near-term needs.
  • Drive the adoption of business intelligence initiatives and strategies across the business by championing new and innovative techniques and approaches that will best utilize available data to answer key business questions.
  • Enable management level dashboards and scorecards to drive more informed decision making.
  • Build analytics and dashboards to be used in operations data analysis and provides insight and guidance to management on use of the data.
Job Duties:
  • Manage BI development team both onshore and offshore in the day-to-day performance of their jobs ensuring that the project and department milestones and goals are met and adhering to approved budgets and schedules. In addition, mentoring and developing team members.
  • Manage process lifecycle for enterprise report design that leverages our investment in SAP Business Object Reporting to build pixel-perfect reports with features to allow data to be filtered, to drill-down to details and to drill-through to other reports.
  • Responsible for enterprise BI Data visualization and reporting toolkits, which includes predefined dashboards and reports that are developed for users to run and interact within a self-service reporting framework. In addition, oversee execution of our Tableau data visualization strategy.
  • Work closely with users and IT teams to turn data into critical information and knowledge that can be used to make sound business decisions. Work directly with business users to help solve specific problems using the data contained in the desired business intelligence solution.
  • Work with BI Analysts and business users to determine business requirements, priorities, define Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and develop BI and data warehouse strategy.
  • Lead project development effort for new data marts on HANA and/or Snowflake Platform
  • Work with data integration team to determine data extraction and refresh strategy (data replication, data ETL, data ELT, or SAP data extraction)
  • Provide data that is accurate, congruent and reliable, and ensure the information is easily available to users for direct consumption or integration with other systems. Ensure data sets are properly staged and accounted for in HANA and/or Snowflake
  • Work with BI developers to optimize data model and transformation. Advise on mixed architecture approach between using BW cube modeling and HANA view model. Advise on data access layout to build queries and reports
  • Ensure proper data documentation and data flow diagrams are created. Work with BI team to produce process maps, system diagrams, logical data models, business requirements, gap analysis, report specifications and other documentation as required for project analysis, planning and design.
  • Keep a high level of communication with management on daily activities and escalate issues to management in an efficient and constructive fashion.
Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and working 10+ years of solid experience working in the Information Technology / Information Systems industry
  • 8+ years working with data analysis and enterprise class BI tools
  • Experience managing a team and direct reports, 3-5 years of supervisory experience
  • Experience working with business users on SAP BusinessObjects, SAP BW/HANA, Snowflake and Tableau issues or enhancements
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, including system and business analysis, problem analysis and resolution.
  • Strong knowledge of current industry trends and practices.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and a customer service attitude.
  • Must be extremely well organized and thorough. The ideal candidate sees every problem or issue as a potential opportunity; strives for continual process improvement and approaches daily tasks with a positive attitude and deep desire to elevate the customer experience.
  • Strong understanding of business process areas such as Property Management, Finance, Budgeting, Sales, CRM, etc.
  • Expertise in Google Apps – Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides
