Position Summary:

The Sr. Google Workspace Systems Engineer will report to a Sr. Director, Information Technology in Irvine, California. You will join a multi-functional team collaborating to administer and support numerous Collaboration Platforms at Irvine Company. Your role will be to administer our Google Workspace ecosystem on a daily basis while evolving this ecosystem over time to help employees leverage the full potential of Google Workspace through Automation, Integrations and Self-Service.
You will work with teams across all of our business divisions and our Google Partners to understand requirements and implement solutions using most products in the Google Workspace suite of tools including but not limited to Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, Google Forms, Google Calendar, Google Meet, Google Vault and the Google Workspace Marketplace. 


Job Duties:

  • Administer, configure and support a Google Workspace environment with over 5,000 accounts.
  • Manage a Google Admin organizational structure composed of numerous organization units
  • Develop, manage and evolve a license management strategy that provisions the right amount of licenses and archives unused accounts over time.
  • Develop, manage and evolve a Google Groups management strategy that includes scheduled synchronization scripts and the periodic removal of unused Google Groups.
  • Develop custom Google App Scripts to support emerging requirements from our partners.
  • Perform and manage legal holds with utmost level of privacy and discretion.
  • Perform elevated Google Workspace support requests.
  • Manage our Chrome ecosystem, including the Chrome browser upgrades and management of Chrome OS devices in the Google Admin portal. 
  • Manage and remediate issues related to Google Chrome on end point devices.
  • Administer and manage the publishing and revocation of apps and extensions the enterprise mobile and Chrome app stores.
  • Oversee email retention activities to comply with legal records retention policies.
  • Engage with Sr. Executives across the organization to provide Google Workspace support. 
  • Partner with IT Security & Audit to enforce strict cross platform security and audit controls.
  • Manage and review the work that needs to be completed by 3rd party vendors.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and resolve production incidents and critical security issues.
  • Configure integrations and security, solve access and permissions issues.
  • Enhance the understanding of the Google Workspace ecosystem to our workforce and promote adoption of standard methodologies across the organization.
  • Author and maintain operational process documentation, runbooks, technical designs and standards.
  • Administer and manage the publishing and revocation of apps and extensions the enterprise mobile and Chrome app stores.
  • Oversee email retention activities to comply with legal records retention policies.
  • Partner with IT Security & Audit to enforce strict cross platform security and audit controls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:

  • 6+ years experience in Google Workspace administration, covering the full suite of products in Google Workspace.
  • 4+ years experience with Google Apps Script.
  • 4+ years experience with using Google Apps Manager (GAM) to create and manage Google Workspace users and groups. Working knowledge of GCDS.
  • Advanced proficiency using the Google Admin Console to set up and manage complex organizational unit structures.
  • Experience managing Legal Matters and Legal Holds in Google Vault.
  • Experience writing and executing Google Apps Manager scripts.
  • Experience delivering Google Workspace content migrations.
  • Proficiency with Google Endpoint Management.
  • Proficiency in other programming and scripting languages such as Java, JavaScript or Python.
  • Experience participating in large multi-person technical efforts, including hybrid teams composed of full-time employees and 3rd party vendors.
  • Experience identifying recurrent support scenarios and performing knowledge transfer to support teams to delegate resolution of support requests.
  • Excellent collaboration skills: you thrive in a hybrid work environment and are very comfortable with asynchronous communication, providing timely and relevant updates on your progress and blockers as they arise.
  • Excellent English language skills: you are comfortable presenting to large audiences and excel at writing in-depth application how-tos, documenting processes, and producing user-facing documentation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • Must be a self starter, with good time management skills, able to manage multiple activities simultaneously while requiring little or no oversight and/ or direction.
  • Must demonstrate strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Must demonstrate strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving skills with ability to apply modern technologies, concepts, & functionality to solve problems and implement solutions.
  • Must comprehend relationship between company policies, business, security, & technical processes and procedures.
  • Must be able to create design documents, system operating procedures & FAQs.
  • Working knowledge of web technologies such as HTTP, HTML, XML, Google App Engine, CloudSQL and building cloud based enterprise applications.
  • Working knowledge of web applications - SDLC, Cloud based web application development concepts and principles, SAAS integration for an enterprise, web content management.
