Position Summary:

The Irvine Company’s Office Division offers a unique opportunity to join the legal team supporting the leasing activity for the Company’s high-rise, campus, and mid-tech portfolios in California, Chicago, and New York.  The Leasing Paralegal is responsible for timely handling of office leases, retail leases, amendments, consents, termination agreements, and ancillary documents.  This position partners with the Company’s Leasing, Operations, Finance, Construction, and Risk Management groups.  The Leasing Paralegal works closely with a very experienced team of in-house attorneys, a leasing paralegal, and other legal professionals.

Job Duties:

  • Provide essential Company and attorney support regarding commercial lease documents at the Company.
  • Under the supervision of in-house counsel, draft, negotiate, and review leases and lease amendments, including related documents such as subleases, assignments, waivers, and confidentiality agreements.
  • Advise business stakeholders on matters relating to lease interpretation, tenant disputes, lease enforcement, and related leasing issues.
  • Analyze tenant comments to determine compliance with Company business practices and assess corporate risk, while acquiring appropriate stakeholder feedback.
  • Support training of business partners regarding the Company’s contract processes and standard operating procedures as it relates to all matters under the purview of the Office Division legal team.
  • Assist with managing and interpreting the Company’s standard templates and standard clause library.
  • Identify, develop, and recommend contract process improvement solutions.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience negotiating real estate leasing contracts, a working knowledge of core legal aspects of contracting, and the ability to understand contract language and quickly identify and communicate any risks or liabilities
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Paralegal certification preferred but not required (depending on experience)
  • Preferred background in office commercial leasing in-house or through outside law firm for national or regional landlords and/or tenants
  • Working knowledge of SalesForce, iManage, Google, Microsoft Word, and DocuSign will be required
  • Team-centric mentality – works well and collaborates well with others in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills, including collaborative and relationship management skills
  • Experience with managing multiple initiatives and projects
