Position Summary:

The Strategic Planning & Analysis (“SP&A”) team is responsible for enterprise-wide financial planning, associated analytics, and market / strategic research for Irvine Company. Within SP&A, the Research team drives economic, demographic, and sector / market analytics to inform the Company’s operating and investment decisions. The group is a centralized corporate function and supports executive management and all real estate divisions. Research deliverables are multi-faceted and span a wide range of topics. Applicants have the opportunity to gain insight into multiple property types in a fluid, fast-paced environment with executive visibility and team leadership potential.

Job Duties:
  • Assist with day-to-day workflow and deliverable management for the Research group; serve as leadership partner and trusted advisor to VP / team leader (along with existing Manager)
  • Create and deliver strategic research product to inform operating / capital decisions (research formats are wide ranging and can include white papers, data visualizations, slide decks, chart scenarios, forecast model outputs)
  • Update the Company’s economic view for quarterly Board of Directors meetings
  • Regularly analyze public REIT competitors for benchmarking purposes and strategy insight
  • Track economic, demographic, and real estate forecasts at the national, state, and local level
  • Elevate the team’s analytic capabilities via transformation, regression, and visualization of large external (macroeconomic) and internal data sets
  • Implement analytic frameworks and proprietary forecast models (supply / demand, operating fundamentals, leasing / merchandising processes)
  • Drive a proprietary “IC perspective” alongside mastery of macro (external) and micro (internal) data sets, forecasting capabilities, and analytic tools
  • Assist in management of the Company’s research subscriptions and platform
Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:
  • Demonstrated research interest / experience. Interested in research or corporate strategyfocused career. Prior experience in finance, consulting, or market research preferred. IC’sresearch team is involved with the Company’s acquisition / development strategy and works closely with internal investment functions, but is not responsible for underwriting opportunities. Candidate must enjoy a standalone research role.
  • Familiarity with data science / data analytics. We are specifically interested in candidates with demonstrated understanding of data science, regression, visualization, and other analyticsoftware. We will utilize and rely on the ideal candidate to elevate the Company’s research function towards more proprietary analytics and forecasting. Experience with Python, Alteryx, Tableau, R preferred; familiarity with Snowflake helpful.
  • Superior written and verbal communication. Ability to quickly synthesize complicated information from multiple sources into concise, relevant, and timely briefs with clear “next step”strategy considerations
  • Superior analytic competency. Ability to manipulate large data sets and determine relationships (regression or otherwise; quickly identify “what the data is telling you”), familiarity with financial statement analysis and public company SEC filings / REIT supplementals, relative valuation, highlevel understanding of corporate finance and real estate valuation.
  • Intellectual curiosity. Strives for thought leadership, diverse perspective, and creative approach within all work product. Keen awareness of the “big picture”; self-starter with curious mind.
