Position Summary:

The Hotel Irvine Catering Sales Manager must be knowledgeable in the hospitality industry and event planning as well as having excellent communication skills both written and verbal. The Catering Sales Manager must be multitask oriented, be a self-starter, be an effective leader and work well with others.


The Catering Sales Manager is required to work with all hotel departments as well as other divisions with the Irvine Company. The Catering Sales Manager will continually asses staff and follow up as needed, i.e. rewarding and disciplining employees through verbal and written communication. Will motivate staff to ensure that all departments work as a unit with everyone working towards the same goal.


The Catering Sales Manager will directly report to the Director of Catering and Events and will work closely with Director of Sales & Marketing, Director of Operations, and Executive Chef to create, promote and execute successful hotel events. The position will also have some interaction with Corporate Marketing.

Job Duties:

  • Provide lateral service wherever is necessary in the hotel.
  • Ability to perform other tasks or projects as assigned by hotel management and staff.
  • Respond to all telephone and walk in inquiries regarding catering space.
  • Developing strong client base with new and existing clients by maintaining a high level of customer service
  • Ability to keep Director of Catering and Events promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters so prompt corrective action can be taken where appropriate.
  • Ability to negotiate with clients and achieve maximum revenue/ profit potential by upselling in all revenue producing areas.
  • Deliver accurate information to all hotel departments concerning all events.
  • Solicit, retain and reactivate accounts to maximize revenue.
  • Achieve yearly personal sales booking goals.
  • Actively upsell clients to assist in reaching monthly catering budget.
  • Planning and executing a yearly calendar of hotel events.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings.
  • Ability to review all function space with the Banquet Manager in regard to any requirement for a group or function.
  • Ability to review all banquet event orders and daily and weekly banquet sheets in ensure accuracy in content as well as spelling.
  • Continually searching for new and exciting entertainment and events for the hotel.

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:

  • Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • 1 - 3 years previous catering sales experience.
  • Strong selling and interpersonal skills.
  • Cold Calling skills.
  • Knowledge of catering sales and operations preferred
